Account Deletion & Data Management

We respect your right to control your data. Here's exactly how to delete your Waypoint account and what happens when you do.

What data we store

When you use Waypoint, we store the following information (see our Privacy Policy for the full detail):

How to delete your account

In-app deletion

  1. β†’Open the Waypoint app
  2. β†’Go to your Profile tab, then Settings
  3. β†’Tap "Delete Account"
  4. β†’Type DELETE to confirm

Email request

If you can't access the app, send a deletion request to:

Include: your registered email, and the subject line "Account Deletion Request".

We verify the request comes from you and action it within 30 days (usually much sooner).

What happens when you delete

βœ“Your profile is removed immediately and is no longer visible to anyone.
βœ“Your account data β€” profile, the messages you sent, friendships, blocks, trips, attendance, and plans you created β€” is permanently deleted from our active database straight away. This cannot be undone.
βœ“Your photos stop being shown in the app immediately. We are rolling out automatic erasure of the underlying image files from storage; until that is complete, an image may remain retrievable by someone who already has its direct link. You can ask us to remove your stored image files right away by emailing support@usewaypoint.app.
βœ“You are removed from all activities and events you joined, and any events you created are deleted.
βœ“All your friend connections are permanently severed.
ℹ️A few things to know: messages that other people sent in a shared chat stay with that chat, and if you created a group plan, its group chat is removed along with it. Residual copies may remain in our hosting provider's encrypted disaster-recovery backups for a limited period and age out under the provider's retention schedule; they are not used to restore deleted accounts.
⚠️Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone or recovered.

Cancel your subscription separately

Deleting your account or the app does not cancel a paid subscription. If you subscribe to Waypoint Premium or Founder, cancel it in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings to stop future charges.

Your profile and account data are deleted from our active database.

Your photos stop being served in the app. Automatic erasure of the stored image files is being rolled out; until then, you can request manual removal by email.

As backups age out

Residual copies in our provider's encrypted backups roll off under its retention window and are not used to restore deleted accounts.

Want a copy of your data first?

Email us at support@usewaypoint.app with the subject "Data Export Request" from your registered email.

Not ready to delete?

You can simply log out from Settings and come back any time β€” your data is kept. Please note that logging out keeps your profile visible to other users; to remove your profile, you need to delete your account.
